About the programme

Species on the Edge is a programme of work that will improve the fortunes of  35 of some of Scotland’s most vulnerable species that are found along Scotland’s coast and islands. Designed to aid species recovery and connect people with the wild places that form their natural heritage, the programme is a partnership between Rethink Nature and NatureScot. It is being led by NatureScot.

The Programme received development funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) in  2020. The full programme is being submitted for 4 year funding from late 2022. The focus will be on seven coastal and island landscape areas in some of Scotland’s most remote areas. Working with and through communities, local initiatives and land managers, the programme will create opportunities for people to get involved in efforts to save these species for future generations.
